Dr Naresh Babu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many, becoming a teacher might mark the end of formal learning. For Dr. Naresh Babu, it became the beginning of a lifelong journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an MBA, an MSc in Mathematics, and a PhD in Management, he also gained professional experience in Global Treasury Operations before moving into academia. Today, as a professor at ABBS School of Management, Bengaluru, he believes that effective teachers must remain learners themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His NPTEL journey began in 2019, after a colleague introduced him to the platform. An avid reader, he enrolled in his first finance course without expecting it to lead to anything significant. Instead, he secured First Rank and a Silver Medal – an achievement that showed him how rigorous and rewarding online learning could be. That experience became the spark for something much bigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, he has completed 41 NPTEL courses, exploring subjects far beyond management, including Data Science, Computer Science, history, Agriculture, and Statistics. Rather than restricting himself to familiar domains, he deliberately chose diverse disciplines to broaden his perspective and enrich his teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His approach to learning is meticulous. He accompanies his lectures with handwritten notes, carefully organising them in his personal collection. Over the years, these notes have grown to nearly 4,000 pages – a resource he frequently revisits and shares with his students. One Six Sigma course alone resulted in almost 300 pages of notes, reflecting his determination to understand every concept thoroughly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concepts, practical examples, and industry case studies he learns often find their way into his classroom. From Power BI and Python to operations and quality management, his NPTEL learning helps him bridge the gap between textbooks and real-world practice. His students benefit from lessons that incorporate current tools and practical applications alongside theoretical knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond teaching, he has also applied these learnings in organisational settings. Concepts from operations management and Six Sigma helped him contribute to efforts aimed at improving quality, reducing delivery timelines, and enhancing customer satisfaction..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also sets himself a personal benchmark of scoring above 75 in every course, continually challenging himself to improve. Among his achievements are 17 Topper recognitions and 12 NPTEL Star Awards, including the Motivated Learner, Enthusiastic Learner, Superstar, and Champion distinctions. Yet, for him, the greatest reward is not a medal but the opportunity to keep learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His family has also played an important role in supporting his learning. They often adjusted their own plans around his study schedule and examinations, helping him maintain the consistency and focus required to pursue multiple courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, he hopes to continue learning through NPTEL and eventually contribute as a course instructor in operations management and statistics. Having benefited from the platform as a learner, he now hopes to share his own knowledge with the wider community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Dr. Naresh Babu, curiosity does not end with a certificate or a classroom. It continues in every question he asks, every concept he explores, and every idea he shares with his students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
