Rajdeep Das<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working as a Junior Fellow Researcher at the Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata, under the CST, IML and CSB departments, can be quite demanding, especially while pursuing a BTech. Rajdeep Das was one such fellow, and the trajectory of his academic interests deepened and changed when an educator came and introduced him to the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His journey began with exploring the NPTEL portal and its diverse range of domains and courses. He was impressed by the quality of pedagogy and the academic credibility offered by leading institutes across the country. He enrolled and began to take them, starting with various domains such as Cloud Computing, Industry Internet of Things, Cyber Security, Development of Research Methods and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of these, Cloud Computing stayed with him the most, exposing him to a wide range of technical skills that were directly applicable to his work and curriculum, as well as concepts he had previously not encountered. His usual process of study is more of a top-down approach; getting to know the gist of things through skimming, then diving into course lectures, out-sourcing from other sources such as YouTube and then repeating the process all week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPTEL\u2019s range of courses, from the most basic to the highest advanced allowed him to explore domains at his own pace and level, having now completed 25 courses altogether and receiving certificates and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It encouraged him to pursue higher academic heights and studies, which is why he is now pursuing an integrated PhD.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The certifications he has earned mean a lot to him, standing as testament to his efforts and as a product of his curiosity for learning, but apart from the credential side of things, they served as a motivator to keep going, keep learning, taking more NPTEL courses and exploring more. His integrated PhD is proof of that, extending his research capabilities to more diverse domains and deeper topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The education offered by leading universities and institutes in India, through professors such as Professor Mishtra and Professor Chandan Karpa, becomes more accessible when presented on a platform like NPTEL. He himself has gone on record to suggest NPTEL courses to his students and asked them to pursue them. While in the current semester, he has not taken any NPTEL courses, he plans on doing so in the next semester, wishing to choose some advanced subjects like Computer Networks and topics adjacent to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked what he would tell others about NPTEL, he is quick to describe it as a well-structured and properly modulated e-learning platform. He believes it is ideal for those looking to pursue field-specific subjects or build their knowledge from the foundations upward. The testing metrics and weekly assignments alongside the examinations themselves prepared him for competitive examinations and the like. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In totality, it is something that everyone should try at least once and then continue where the wind takes them thereafter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
