Dr Chandra Rakhee<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Dr. Chandra Rakhee, learning Computer Science meant stepping beyond her specialisation and spending time with subjects that might not always come easily. An Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at Marri Laxman Reddy Engineering College, she began her NPTEL journey while working at St. Martin\u2019s Engineering College and pursuing her PhD at Osmania University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She first heard about NPTEL through a fellow research scholar, whose enthusiasm encouraged her to give it a try. She was already interested in Information Technology and Computer Science, and the courses gave her the opportunity to dive deep in these fields. These courses complemented her existing Azure and Oracle certifications, broadening her knowledge of IT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She began with foundational IT subjects like \u2018Cloud Computing\u2019, \u2018Database Management Systems\u2019, \u2018Software Testing\u2019, and \u2018Cybersecurity’, alongside \u2018IoT’, which was naturally closer to her EEE background. Among these, \u2018Cloud Computing\u2019 and \u2018IoT\u2019 quickly became her favourites. However, hands-on coding and \u2018Cybersecurity\u2019 presented a steep learning curve. To tackle this, she took on courses in C++, Python, and Data Structures and Algorithms, realising early that mastering programming meant going beyond lectures; it meant writing code and solving assignments consistently. In this initial phase, she qualified in seven courses, securing Elite and Silver certifications in five. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She continued to build on that first experience by enrolling in five more NPTEL courses, qualifying in three and accumulating 18 credits. She has examinations remaining in \u2018Machine Learning\u2019 and \u2018Cybersecurity and Privacy\u2019. The NPTEL Star Discipline and NPTEL Star Believer awards have already marked important milestones in her journey. In 2024, she was also invited to IIT Madras to celebrate these achievements, a moment she remembers fondly. Her next goal is to earn the NPTEL Domain Star recognition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The courses also began to change the way she taught. Inspired by lectures, Dr. Chandra Rakhee started bringing more real-life examples and problem-solving activities into her classes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also encouraged students to make short, five-minute videos explaining concepts in their own words. The exercise helped them work through unfamiliar topics while becoming more confident in explaining what they had learnt.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Her own journey has encouraged others to begin theirs. Students approach her for advice about NPTEL, and her nephew has started taking courses alongside his B.Tech studies. The encouragement she once received from a fellow scholar is now reaching people around her, being one more reason to keep going. Teaching, coursework, and examinations keep her schedule busy, but she continues to make time for learning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf we have passion and if we want to learn something\u2026 no one and nothing can stop us\u201d, she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

With a Domain Star still in her sights, she has more courses to explore and more challenges to tackle. For Dr. Chandra Rakhee, the learning continues, both in the courses she takes and in the classroom she returns to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
